The Muses

Back again for another post!

This week I will introduce you to my second programme which is in the process of being brought to life: The Muses

This is actually the project that gave me the idea to name each programme after a Goddess from mythology. The Community Choir has now been given the name Harmonia due to it aiming to bring unity and harmony between people. Plus Harmony has a musical meaning as well which I thought was fitting for a choir!

Anyway back to the Muses.

This is the project that is probably closest to my heart as it encompasses my love for music and art. But also uses these creative mediums to support people who have experienced trauma.

The outline of this project is to run as a short term creative processing course. Attendees will be expected to bring a piece of music that they have a connection with (of any genre or style). There are no rules around what kind of connection must be had. The piece of music could have a connection to a particular memory or feeling or experience.
The attendees will take it in turns each week to bring their chosen piece to the group, share the music and their story. Once this is complete, the group will be asked to create a piece of art based on what they have heard. This is completely up to interpretation. The only rules are that the person who has shared must have their story respected and it should remain confidential to the group.

Once the term has finished and everyone has had a chance to share, there will be an exhibition of all the art that was created, with live music and narrations of the art from the artists themselves.

This programme aims to give a holding experience to the attendees. To bring validation to their experiences and to be heard. Another hope it that it brings trust and connection to people and helps to build meaningful bonds through music and art.

The programme will be co-facilitated by Rachael Gow (music therapist) and Anna Benari (Artist and Art Curator)

This programme is currently under application for funding. We aim to make this programme free to attend and accessible to those who would benefit most. We will post updates on funding and when it is open for booking as soon as possible.

I very much look forward to this project; working across different creative mediums to bring about reflective work for wellbeing.

If you have any questions, please do get in contact using the contact form or the email address provided.

Sending all the love as usual!
